Gnome Chompski: A Left 4 Dead 2 short story

“I think I know how we can be saved. The concert stage should still have the music and fireworks installed. We can use the power of rock to call out the helicopter!” my dad cried out with a grin, making the rock on sign with his free hand, the other holding a shotgun. I laughed a bit. “Very funny dad.” my brother grumbled but with a smile. “And all we have to do is get the gnome on board as well. You ready?” my cousin looked to me. I squeezed the giant garden gnome tightly in my arms and nodded. On my back was a machine gun and med kit just in case things got out of hand. “We’ll protect you, don’t worry. Let’s go!” my dad said and put down the safety door bar.

We made our way out in a rush, myself in the middle while my brother, dad, and cousin guarded my sides and back. We were all a bit torn up from coming all the way here, fighting zombies left and right. But the thought of finally escaping the nightmare gave us hope and strength. After what seemed to take forever, we reached the concert stage.

We cleared out any wandering zombies before looking around and taking whatever we could to prepare for the fight we knew would be coming. I took a molotov, more bullets for my machine gun, and a electric guitar. “I can’t wait to bash zombies with this. It’s going to be so cool!” I grinned. My dad laughed and ruffled my hair. “We’ll make it through this, I promise.” he said. I teared up a bit at the thought and placed the gnome carefully in the middle of the stage, a place I could keep an eye on it while taking care of zombies.

“Ready? I’m going to start it up.” my brother said. Everyone nodded and my brother pressed the button. The music immediately started and the sparks on the front of the stage lit up. I could hear them, the screams of the horde. But what we mostly kept an eye out for was the specials, especially what we called the tanks. They were like zombies on steroids.

We managed to keep our ground when I heard a whopping noise from overhead. “The helicopter!” I cheered as I bashed a zombie in the face with my guitar. “Grab the gnome and let’s go!” my dad said. I grabbed it and before long all four of us were running towards the helicopter who parked on the bleachers on the side of the stage. We were getting close when suddenly I felt something slimy grab around my waist and before I knew it I was suddenly being dragged backwards at an alarming rate, the gnome slipping from my hands from my surprise. “Smoker!” I cried as I was dragged clear across the stage on the opposite side of where the helicopter was.

“Oh no! I’m coming!” my cousin shouted and my family began to turn around. Zombies slowly began to surround me and I looked around for a possible escape. But there were two tanks and zombies coming out of every place imaginable like ants whose hill was set on fire. They would never make it alive to free me. Tears welled in my eyes as I shouted, “Go, go! Leave without me! Where’s the gnome? Someone get the gnome!” “I have it.” my brother said, whacking zombies with it. “Then go, leave me! It’s ok. Just go!” My family hesitated with much sadness then turned and ran for the helicopter. As it began to take off with them and the garden gnome I gave them a thumbs up before blacking out.

Inside a living room I threw my hands up in the air. “Woo! Yeah, we got it!” I cheered and laughed. My family all stared at me. “You are crazy.” my cousin laughed as I high-five everyone.

I love this guys Left 4 Dead comics, they are pretty great. xD With the last few panels I got to witness Ellis’ sudden crush on Zoey first hand. lol Just today actually. And I was playing Ellis. I just love when Zoey talks to him and he doesn’t answer and Rochelle is like “Ellis, did you hear what she said?” and Ellis is like “She’s so beautiful. She’s so beautiful.” and then later on he’s like “I think I might ask her to marry me.” XD lol
